This is the only digital original around. The only NFT of an oil painting that doesn’t exist anymore. I still have the canvas, and parts of this piece are still intact, but I decided to continue the work. When it reaches a new phase that’s good enough for a digital collectable I’ll bring it to you. You see is a Mother Mary holding flowers, and a goat underneath her left arm. You can also see the silhouet of Jesus. The landscape is somewhere in The Netherlands.

I’m not sure if I like these hysterical and sometimes visually aggressiveness of them. What I do like is to try to combine my ability to paint and use digital tools to make a digital collage. We’re rapidly moving into a world where we are hyperconnected through all sorts of devices. Staying focussed is a problem when we disconnect from who we are. By painting and creating I try to stay in contact with who I am. I want to share this focus and concentration through my work. And maybe give a "place" for people to feel this too. This digital artwork first was an oil painting of a "monkey" in a dark blue landscape. I sold it, I think somewhere back in 2015. Because I still felt a lot of love for the image I made an art print of the the picture I had. The picture was not of the best quality, but good enough for a print. I painted a self portrait in oil paint straight on the print. So, when you zoom in you can see the oil paint lying on top of the print. You can see the structure. It’s all there. Now I’ve scanned this painting and it became digital. I’ve changed the date and added the letters NFT. I’ve painted Rembrandt in his style partly with my own face merged into it. I’ve covered my own eyes with tape. The bird you see is from famous painting called "Het Puttertje" or "The Goldfinch" made by Carel Fabritius in 1654. I love both painters and combined them in this work in order to connect the Master and his Pupil. The physical version of this Digital Art Piece doesn’t exist anymore. I’ve covered my own eyes with tape because I wanted to keep them and paint over other parts. My working process is very slow, and my paintings change a lot over time. When I keep working on a painting, I sometimes lose interesting versions of a piece. But now, using SuperRare and blockchain, I can sort of, keep that particular version, by digitize it with a scanner. I now feel comfortable knowing I "saved" the previous phase and then calmly continue the working process. When I find a new version good enough for an NFT I’ll bring it to you. The physical version measures 40 cm x 30 cm with 3 round edges.
The woman on this painting is a portrait of a woman giving birth. I found her footage on YouTube. I’m not sure who shot the film, but there are people who put this very private moment on the internet. I gave her her anonymity back by painting her this way, and I gave her clouds. I’m not sure which way the physical original work will go, but the painting is not done yet. It’s oil paint on wood. 40 cm x 30 cm.

The physical original oil painting of this NFT will not stay in existence for a long time. This depiction is a phase in the painting. I’ve created it in order to paint it over. And work it more through. I make paintings and paint over them. I build image upon image to give the physical presence of the work more density, but also to create digital work which shows the history of the oil painting. With the ability to put these in between phases on the blockchain it adds more value to the physical work.

Turning my paintings into a GIF gives me new ground to build on. Cut, copy and paste my own paintings into new digital art feels quite natural. And gave it the rainbow colors to show some love for the LGBT community.

I’ve used the famous painting ’Face on Haarlem’ by Jacob van Ruisdael and make a revery to the painting ’Ship of Fools’ by Hieronymus Bosch. Both are painters I’m very fond of. I’ve tried to place them in this day and age. Putting them in on gif animation adding contemporary coloring and symbols. It’s about the madness surrounding our monetary system and the new world where mining.

Not aware of what to find. I used paintings, a sculpture and drawings as ingredients for this Master Layer. I really love to see the structure of the world offline adding value to my work online. To me this is important. Working this way gives me a lot of tools and new options. It let’s me play around with work that’s not around anymore because I’ve either sold it, or painted over it, or used in another way. I can still spend time with it. And import fragments and build new portraits.
The image tell it’s own story. I don’t want to add anything to that. The only thing I would like to share is that I’m getting more and more intrigued by the idea of tokenizing not only my work but also parts of myself. Putting human parts in a GAN landscape displaying well known gestures combines online and offline, classical art and art NOW. Learning and melting.
I’m looking for the right balance between the classical way of making art, and bringing it to this Digital Age of NFT’s. The colors that digital tools give me, and the way I am able to draw freely add in a way to my offline work. It fills the playing field with pleasant and intriguing tensions. My focus mostly lies on the female portrait. I find her beauty is overwhelming.

With the painting ’Two Fridas’ by Frida Kahlo in mind I’ve created a setting where the two prominent figures are carved out pretty roughly. Combining them later as OBJ with other VR sculptures and pictures this image came up. I love the doubling of the figures and life in the Upside Down. The different textures that please my eye, but in the meantime…

This portrait of Nakamoto is the final stage of the wooden panel, but on the back of the panel you can read the titles of the other phases it has gone through. Look at me, watching you. 2021 This painting doesn’t exist anymore. But the canvas it was painted on is in my studio collecting DATA. Parts of it are still in place. It started with a Mary carrying her child. That might have been somewhere in 2016. After that it transformed. I painted skulls from different Dutch Masters from the Golden Age. Added a touch of vaniTas to it. The piece itself is referring to the way we behave on social media and interact with one another. It’s both beautiful and morbid at the same time. A blessing and a curse. The black mirror we’re staring at hours on end. Recomposing ourselves from the comments of others. Data Junkies.

This is the plain .OBJ stage where I worked on to make ’If we tolerate this then our children will be...’ This setting is made in Blender with the app Human Generator and tweaked it until it was good for the next step. In the final piece you find paintings that I integrated into the scene and I worked further on it in Gimp and Procreate. In the process, I tossed the OBJ file from Blender to Nomad and back again. Minting this OBJ gives an inside in the way I work. It adds to my body of work. And you don’t need to know the other piece to read this setting and appreciate it for what it is.
